Tariff classification mistakes that quietly erode your margin

Tariff classification feels like bureaucratic detail until you realise it sets the duty rate on everything you import. A code that’s slightly off can quietly add points of cost to every shipment, or expose you to penalties and back-duty when it’s caught.

The right classification is sometimes a judgement call, and small differences in how a product is described can change the rate meaningfully. It’s worth getting a considered opinion rather than copying whatever the supplier put on the invoice.

Correct codes protect margin on the way in and remove a nasty category of surprise on the way through customs.
